I spent last year living in Fontainebleau, France in what must have been one of the narrowest houses I've ever seen. Here's a picture:
Fontainebleau is about a 40 minute train ride outside of Paris and nestled in the middle of the Fontainebleau Forest. Life there was definitely different than life in New York City, but it was a welcome challenge made a bit easier by Julia Child's My Life in France.
If you are going to France, or just looking for a great read, I highly recommend this. Prior to reading this novel, I didn't know much about Julia Child. She is brave, down-to-earth and inspiring. The movie Julia & Julia (while fun) just doesn't do it justice.
